Welsh Language Charter
Learning Welsh sessions in the classroom for parents
The school has organized Welsh learning sessions in the classroom for parents during the Spring term and the Summer term. The sessions take place monthly where they have the opportunity to come to class to learn with the children. In the first session we learned how to greet in Welsh, sing nursery rhymes, discuss the weather and follow simple sentence patterns when sharing milk in the milk shop. The parents and children thoroughly enjoyed it and everyone is looking forward to the second session.
Welsh Music Day
As part of celebrations leading up to Welsh Music Day, Welsh Whisperer came joined us for a composition workshop with the children. Also, Mr T and Dafydd Eurgain from the Gwynedd and Mon schools Music service came to teach the children how to enjoy using various musical instruments. On Welsh Music day, we listened to a variety of Welsh songs and we had a disco in the afternoon. Congratulations to Efan Gwern's parents for winning the Pwy 'di Pwy competition and recognizing all the Welsh celebrities!
St David's Day
Members of Merched y Wawr and Gweill Gobaith joined us to celebrate St David's Day. They enjoyed a cup of tea and cake while listening to the children sing a variety of songs to remember Saint David, and songs about Spring.
World Book Day
The School Council's idea this year was for everyone to come to school in pyjamas. We enjoyed various stories throughout the day and the eldest children read a story to nursery, reception and year 1 pupils. Everyone enjoyed taking part in the blended learning task which was to share photos of themselves enjoying reading at home, and reading in a different place than usual.
The World Cup
One of the special results of the presence of the Red Wall in Qatar is the increase in awareness of the Welsh language. We followed the 'World Cup' theme at school and we loved watching and supporting the games. Everyone had the opportunity to create a bucket hat and decorate it with pictures of things that represent Wales.
Jamboree
In November, we had so much fun joining all the schools in Wales in the Urdd Jamboree to wish the Welsh football team the best of luck in Qatar. It was a privilege to sing along with the hero himself, Dafydd Iwan.
Shwmai, Su’mae day
Thank you to the families of the school for taking part to help us create a video to promote Shwmae Su'mae day in October. Remember to greet in Welsh...try it!
