'Keep Wales Tidy' competition

Good news!
Year 2 and 3 took part in the ‘keep Wales Tidy’ competition. The challenge was to create a video on the theme of ’Litter Less’. Ysgol Morfa’s video has been selected as one of the best top three in Wales! The video will represent Wales in an international competion! Good luck!

Thanksgiving

This is a Thanksgiving message from the Foundation Phase children. Years 2 and 3 have written a personal Thanksgiving prayer - go on seesaw to hear your child's prayer and hear them singing. Enjoy the holidays!

Pumpkin

After we planted seeds in March, four huge pumpkins grew in the garden! We had a lot of fun collecting them and this is currently the theme of both classes; learning about the pumpkin.

Shwmae Su’mae

We celebrated Shwmae Su´mae day - a day to celebrate our language and greet each other in Welsh. We are currently very dependent on digital communication so here are parents and pupils of ysgol Morfa greeting each other in Welsh by video.

School council

We had a very different School Council election this year as we are in two different bubbles. Thank you to year 3 for giving the foundation phase pupils a special performance from screen to screen at our online meeting. Everyone got a chance to vote and here are the members of the school council this year. Well done to everyone for their effort!

Fitness Day 2020

Everyone came to school in their PE clothes to take part in the Fitness Day.
A full day of fitness activities to learn about the importance of keeping our bodies healthy.
We ran a mile, exercised, took part in a yoga session and went for a walk with the nursery children in the afternoon. .

Welsh Music Day

Everyone brought instruments to school to celebrate Welsh music day and joined in whilst listening to Welsh songs. The disco and ‘Cool Karaoke’ session was so much fun.

Diwrnod Santes Dwynwen

Everyone has been busy learning the story of Dwynwen by taking part in literacy, numeracy, digital competence and craft activities.

Wool Journey

Nursery, Reception and year 1 children have been learning about the journey of wool as part of their classroom theme ‘farm animals’. Thank you to Elsie’s mum for joining us to teach us about the important steps; from shearing to knitting. Visit her website to see her amazing products.

We have received the Welsh Language Charter gold award again in 2019. Well done everyone! Here are two members of the school council with the certificate.

Singing Christmas carols at Plas Madryn
Thank you to everyone at Plas Madryn for the warm welcome this Christmas. The children enjoyed singing Christmas carols to the staff and residence.

Christmas coding
Year 2 and 3 children had so much fun with TechnoEd creating some fantastic Christmas themed coding work. Developing digital competence skills, independence and perseverance.

Christmas Show
The show this year was ‘Santa on strike’. The children performed amazingly. Thank you to the staff at the golf club, the parents and the school staff for their support. Santa is no longer on strike. HWRE!!

Christmas Tree Lights
Thank you to the cylch meithrin for organising a lovely night to welcome Santa to the village again this year. Everyone enjoyed singing carols under the christmas and counting down to light the tree with Liz Saville Roberts.

Children in Need
Thank you to everyone who supported and contributed towards Children in Need today. We raised £77.05. Everyone dressed up and joined Joe Wicks and Pudsey in the Big Morning Move. Great ideas from the School Council. The business company LLOND BOL have been busy making healthy treats to sell to the children.

Anti-bullying week 2019
We celebrated anti-bullying week learning about bullying and its effect. Everyone came to school wearing socks which did not match as a symbol that everyone is different in a variety of ways.

Vegetable Soup
Year 2 and 3’s business company ‘Llond bol’ decided to make vegetable soup for the parents using the vegetables which they had contributed to decorate the chapel for the Thanksgiving service. Most of the vegetables was given to the residents of Plas Madryn.

Welsh Air Ambulance
The School Council decided to contribute the Thanksgiving Service collection this year towards Wales Air Ambulance charity. Here is a photo of them presenting a cheque of £128.25 to Eryl, who works for the charity.

RECYCLING WEEK!
We had a great week learning about the importance of recycling. Gwenllian, a Recycling Officer gave us a presentation and nursery, reception and year 1 pupils were busy creating in the art and craft area using recycling materials.

The Garden

Walking To School Week
Great effort again with everyone trying their best to walk to school every day. We received a silver certificate from (information coming soon).

Enterprise Troopers
Congratulations to the 4 pupils who represented the school’s business LLOND BOL at the Enterprise Troopers competition. Being invited to the finals was an honour and an amazing experience. They enjoyed presenting their produce including strawberry jam, bara brith and treacle toffee. Congratulations to Nico Jones for being chosen as the Outstanding Individual!

Classroom Transfer Day

Blas y Môr Festival
Thank you to everyone who joined us at the beach in the Blas y môr festival to support the school and to the Parents Association for selling the cakes! A beautiful day in the sun. Congratulations to the winners of the fancy dress and art competition.

Maritime Museum
As part of year 2 and 3’s classroom theme ‘the sea’, they went to visit the Maritime museum in Nefyn. Everyone enjoyed themselves and we had a warm welcome.

Everyone enjoyed the ‘parti piws’ today. We would like to thank everyone for contributing towards the Cylch Meithrin. Everyone enjoyed the visit from Dewin and Doti in the afternoon. A great idea from the Mudiad Meithrin.

'Wales Outdoor Learning’ Week
We had a lovely afternoon on our Spring nature walk. We saw a variety of wild flowers and some minibeasts. We enjoyed learning about nature in our community.

Creative schools project celebration
Thank you to everyone who joined us in the last creative school project today. Reception and Year 1 pupils have had so much fun with Gai Toms and Siwan Llynor, taking part in a variety of activities to develop their imagination and creativity. Visiting fairy land was magical!

Red nose day
£68.44 was raised today with everyone paying £1 to wear funny clothes. We had a jokes telling session and everyone made their own silly glasses. We would all like to thank Isobel’s nain for the tasty Red nose cakes.

World Book Day 2019
The author Nia Gruffydd came to school to read and discuss her books ‘Maes y Mes’. The Children had so much fun listening to her stories about the fairies. Nursery, Reception and Year 1 pupils are eager to learn more about the characters within the classroom theme.

St Davids day celebrations
Everyone looked great in their Welsh clothes today to celebrate St Davids day. Thank you to Mercher y Wawr for joining us in the celebrations.

Meddylfryd o Dwf
We are very grateful to Mrs Nesta Jones, mother of the well-known opera singer Bryn Terfel for coming to school to talk to us about his successful career. His life story inspired the children to persevere and follow their dreams.

Welsh Language music day
We had so much fun celebrating the Welsh Language music day today. We sang kareoke to the new song by Seren & Sbarc and listened to their playlist whilst eating lunch. At the end of the day everyone danced to a variety of Welsh songs; ‘Rhedeg i Baris’ by Candelas being the favourite this year. We set a quiz for parents and children on the playlist – this is a photo of the winner with her special prize!

Santes Dwynwen
Dydd Santes Dwynwen hapus! We took part in a variety of challenges in the learning areas to celebrate. The children created heart crafts and ate the tasty biscuits that LLOND BOL had cooked. Click here to see all the photos.

We would like to thank the staff of Hafod Hedd for their warm welcome. The children enjoyed singing Christmas carols to the residents. A cheque of £194.10 which was raised at our Thanksgiving service was presented so that they could buy a new camera.

Lloyd George museum
Everyone enjoyed our visit to the Lloyd George museum in Llanystumdwy, learning about victorian Christmas traditions.

Christmas show
Our Christmas show this year was ‘Christmas in Gwlad y Rwla’. All the characters looked great in their outfits.

Children in Need
The pupils came to school dressed up as Pudsey, wearing spotty or yellow clothes to raise money towards Children in Need. £75 was raised. Thank you everyone, especially the school council for organising.

Christmas fair
We would like to thank everyone who attended the Christmas fair and to all the parents for helpind and contributing. The cakes on the cake stall looked amazing! We made a profit of £859. Great!

School dinners tasting session
Parents and pupils enjoyed the school dinners tasting session. The nursery children had the opportunity to try a variety of foods which are on the menu and they are all looking forward to having school dinners when they attend all day next year.

Raising money for dementia
£194.10 was raised towards dementia in the Thanksgiving collection. Thank you to everyone who contributed. The money will be used to buy a camera for the residents at Hafod Hedd, the local dementia unit. They go on regular trips and days out and the camera will ensure that they have photos of the trips to look back on happy memories.

Shwmai, Su’mae day
The school council greeted parents and children in Welsh at the gate this morning to celebrate Shwmai, Su’mae day. Here is a photo of the competition set to parents from the School Council. Do you recognise these famous Welsh faces? Congratulations to everyone who got them right and especially to the winner of the competition; Elin Williams (Nel Lois’ mother). She received a CD of 40 Welsh songs as a prize.

Rhys and Meinir
Year 2 and 3 visited Nantgwrtheyrn yesterday as part of their classroom theme - the folk tale of Rhys and Meinir. Everyone enjoyed taking part in many activities including a treasure hunt, biscuit decorating and learning about the hard work of the quarry workers. They dressed up to listen to the story of Rhys and Meinir.

Summer reading challenge
Congratulations to everyone who finished the Summer reading challenge at the library. They all received a medal and certificate for reading 9 books during the Summer holidays.

Celebrating Owain Glyndwr day
Everyone came to school dressed in red to celebrate Owain Glyndwr day. We took part in many activities in the classroom to learn about his history.

Selling Blackberry cakes
The LLOND BOL business company had little helpers to pick blackberries this week, before cooking cakes and selling them to pupils and parents. A very busy day!

Gwenllian, a recycling officer came to school to talk to year 2 and 3 pupils about the importance of recycling. We had a very interesting morning!

Plants
Thank you to Robert Parkinson from the National Trust for coming to school today to teach Reception and Year 1 pupils about what plants need to grow. Everyone had an interesting morning looking for different plants and planting sunflower seeds. We look forward to seeing who’s sunflower will grow first!

Collecting Rubbish on the beach
Catrin Glyn, the Conservation Officer for Pen Llyn came to school today to talk about her work. Year 2 and 3 pupils enjoyed in her company, learning about sealife in Pen Llyn and the effects of polution on sea creatures. St Davids day concert

The children came to school in traditional Welsh and red clothes. We learned about St David and took part in many activities. Our concert was held in the Ganolfan and the children sang and told jokes to the audience. Parents who had attended ‘learning welsh’ sessions in the school joined the pupils on stage to sing nursery rhymes. Congratulations to them!

New Year Celebrations and Traditions

Parents learning Welsh - Session 2

Parents who are learning Welsh were invited to school again in January. During this week’s session we learned how to discuss the weather and count in Welsh, recognising numbers up to 10. Every parent had an opportunity to work in the ‘milk shop’, learning new sentences and questions. We would like to thank the parents for joining and look forward to next month’s session.

Creative Schools

Session 1 of the ‘creative school’ scheme was held this week by Martin Thomas and Owain Llyr. The children took part in a variety of activities to learn about entrepreneurship and develop their digital skills. They interviewed the owners of Garej Morfa to learn more about a local business. We would like to thank the staff at Garej Morfa for such a warm welcome!

Attendance

Congratulations to these children for full attendance during the Autumn term. They all attended school every day! Well done!

Christmas 2017

We had lots of fun celebrating Christmas again this year. Following a great concert by the pupils we went on a Christmas trip to watch a panto in Criccieth and stopped to see Santa on the way home. Christmas fair

A sum of £1082.87 was raised at the Christmas fair this year. We would like to thank the Parents Association for organising and to everyone for their support. A big thank you to Nanhoron for allowing us to use the hotel and for being so helpful!

Learning Welsh

Parents who are eager to learn Welsh are invited to school. In out first session this term, Isobel’s father joined us in the classroom, taking part in many activities and singing nursery rhymes. He learned many Welsh words, including bird names. He also helped to share milk in the ‘milk shop’. We would like to thank him for joining us and for being so enthusiastic!

Remembrance Sunday

Myfanwy Hughes came to school to talk to the children about 'Remembrance Sunday' with year 2 and 3 children! She showed a wreath of red poppies to remember the soldiers who lost their lives in the war! The children went to see the memorial at St Mary's Church, Morfa Nefyn. She explained that there will be a special service there on Sunday to remember the soldiers who lost their lives! She asked 2 of the children to take part in the service by presenting a special poppy wreath on behalf of the councillor Lis Saville Roberts.

Gymnastics

Year 2 and 3 had fun making different body shapes in the gymnastics lesson. They worked in pairs, solving problems to create shapes where different parts of their body made contact.

Thanksgiving Service

The thanksgiving concert was held at St Mary's church. Year 2 and 3 performed a story about the 'red squirrel' and Reception and Year 1 pupils were thankful for the Autumn term. The collection was towards Evie Hughes' fund. £227.27 was collected. Thank you to everyone for being so generous. More activities will be held during the term to collect more money for the fund.

Singing in Plas Madryn

Following the thanksgiving service, the whole school went to Plas Madryn to sing the songs to the elderly. We received a very warm welcome and the staff had prepared cupcakes to thank the children for singing so well and cheering up the residents. Click here to see all of the photos.

Plas yn Rhiw, October 2017

Reception and Year 1 pupils would like to thank Robert who works for the National Trust for yet another fantastic morning in Plas yn Rhiw. We looked for birds, learning their names and then made some food balls for them using lard, seeds and nuts. Click here to see the photos.

PC Owen

PC Owen came to school this week. Reception and Year 1 learned about places in the environment which are safe to play in and recognised dangers in places which aren’t safe. Year 2 and 3 learned the meaning of the word ‘bullying’ and how to be a good friend.

Visiting the 'Ysgwrn'

Year 2 and 3 went to visit 'Yr Ysgwrn' in Trawsfynydd to remember the bard Hedd Wyn who died 100 years ago in the 1st World War. The saw the 'Black chair' and the farmhouse. A fantastic experience!

Summer Fair 2017

An amazing sum of £750.58 was raised at the Summer Fair this year. We are very grateful to the Parents Association for organising the fair and to all the parents for their support on the night. Click here to see photos of the sports day and Summer Fair.

Celebrating local success

Friday night, 14th of July, 2017, there was a special night to congratulate Mared Llywelyn Williams, former pupil of Ysgol Morfa on her success in the National Urdd Eisteddfod at Pen-Y-Bont ar Ogwr. She received a medal for writing a ‘drama’. Nia W Williams the head teacher was asked to talk about Mared and her time at ysgol Morfa. Also, year 2 and 3 children sang old traditional songs on the night. Mared visited the school the following Monday to talk about her time at Ysgol Morfa, her feelings about winning the medal at the Eisteddfod and to talk to the children about the library’s summer challenge as she is working in the library.

Summer Reading Challenge

After Mared Llywelyn came to school to discuss the reading challenge, all the children walked to the Library in Nefyn to choose 3 books for the summer holidays. The challenge this year is called ‘Animal Agent’, very exciting! Remember to visit the Library two more times during the holidays to complete the challenge and receive a medal. Visiting the Lifeboat

Reception, Year 1, 2 and 3 pupils went to Porthdinllaen this week to present a cheque of £50 that the School Council had raised for the Lifeboat. In the afternoon, we cooked marshmallows on the fire on the beach with Laura and Robert from the National Trust. We were caught in the storm and everyone was soaking wet when arriving back at school. Hinduism

Year 2 and 3 learned about Hinduism with Mrs Pari, learning about a religion which is different to Christianity. Lili’s grandmother brought clothes and artefacts from India to show the children.

Raising money for Epilepsy

The School Council invited Catrin Davies from Ysgol Cymerau to school to talk to the children about cutting her very long hair (40cm) on ‘Heno’, a programme on S4C. Catrin’s hair will be used by ‘Little Princess Trust’ to make wigs. Also, Catrin was raising money for ‘Epilepsy’ and to help her raise more money, the School Council decided to organise a ‘crazy hair day’. Every child and staff came to school wearing wigs or coloured their hair. We helped Catrin raise another £61.03.

Cooking samosas

When learning about Hinduism as our classroom theme, Year 2 and 3 cooked healthy vegetable samosas. Very tasty!

Year 2 and 3 enjoyed taking part in outdoor water activities on their trip to Plas Menai. They took part in paddle boarding, kayaking and working as a team. Thay also jumped into the Menai strait.

The Faenol cross country race
Four children from year 3 took part in the Faenol cross country race this year - Cian Jones, Caio Griffiths, Cadi Midwood and Ioan Davies. Every child ran and tried their very best! They practised daily during playtime this term, timing themselves in order to develop their speed.

Performing in Pontio
Year 2 and 3 was invited to sing at the teacher students’ award ceremony. Ms Williams was the guest speaker at the ceremony. Everyone enjoyed the children’s performance.

Raising money for the RNLI
The School Council decided to support the RNLI fundraising in May. Every child paid £1 to come to school in 'Summer clothes' and raised £50.25. Thank you to all the staff and parents for supporting.

The Urdd Athletics
Congratulations to the school's team for becoming third in the year 3 mixed relay race at the Urdd athletics. Well done!

Walking to school week May 2017

Professional Teaching Award Wales
Professional teaching award Cymru was held for the first time at the City Hall in Cardiff on Sunday, 7th of May 2017. Nia Wyn Williams was nominated for the Headteacher of the year award by the School Governors’ chairwoman. She succeeded to reach the final and attend the awards ceremony. Huge congratulations to her for becoming the runner up. The school Governors, staff and parents of the school are very proud of her success and congratulate her.

Online Safety
PC Owen came to school to teach the children about the importance of staying safe online. They watched a cartoon which was full of important messages! Remember to use the ‘schoolbeat’ website where your child can play games to remind themselves of PC Owen’s rules and messages. Leisure Centre Activities
Year 2 and 3 are learning a variety of new skills in the Leisure Centre this term, including Water safety in the swimming pool and climbing on the climbing wall. Click here to see them working hard and learning important skills! New photos will be added weekly.

Scoop the poop!

Jonathan Neale, a Tidy Towns officer and Sian Hughes the councillor came to school to congratulate three pupils for succeeding to create a poster to encourage the public to pick up dog poop. The posters will be displayed in the village so that everyone will be reminded to keep the village clean and tidy.

Eryri Urdd Eisteddfod

Congratulations to these three pupils who succeeded to go on stage in the Eryri Urdd Eisteddfod. Well done!

Felin Uchaf

Reception and Year 1 have been learning about various types of homes as part of their classroom theme this term and a visit to Felin Uchaf, Rhoshirwaun was organised so that they could see Celtic round houses. Everyone enjoyed the visit and learned so much new information about the Celts, as well as comparing the round houses to our homes today. Thank you to everyone at Felin Uchaf for their warm welcome. Comic Relief

The school's council organised a 'funny day' on Friday, 24th of March, 2017 for comic relief (red nose day). The children and staff came to school in funny outfits dressing up as clowns, wearing funny wigs, and some of the girls came dressed as boys the boys dressed as girls! In the afternoon the children told jokes and recited funny stories! Ms Williams paid money for the children to be quiet for 2 minutes! Then, at 3 o'clock the children sold red nose cakes by the school gate. A sum of £111.50 was raised. Thank you to everyone who raised money for a good cause. Click here to see photos.

Welsh flag

As requested by the school council, Dewi Pws came to school to raise our new Welsh flag. The parents joined in at the end of the day and watched him cut the ribbon and raise the flag. Everyone sang the anthem 'Hen Wlad fy Nhadau' (Old land of my fathers). Click here to see photos and a video.

Estyn awards

The school head teacher and teacher was invited to an Estyn awards ceremony in Cardiff on the 9th of March. The awards was to recognise excellence in education throughout Wales. The school received a certificate for their outstanding results in the 2015-16 inspection. We are very proud of this success. Visiting Plas Madryn

The children walked to Plas Madryn, Morfa Nefyn to sing traditional Welsh songs to the elderly, following the St David's day concert. We would like to thank them for their warm welcome and for the lovely cake. Click here to see the photos.

St David's day

We learned about St David in school this week. The children came to school in traditional Welsh clothes or red coloured clothes to take part in many interesting activities. Dewi Pws joined the children on stage in the St David's day concert to sing traditional welsh songs. The pupils had so much fun in his company. Click here to see photos.

Pancake day

The children had so much fun cooking pancakes on Shrove Tuesday. We wrote recipes and instructions on how to make the pancakes and then measured and weighed carefully before enjoying cooking and eating them. Click here to see the photos.

Farm to fork

Year 2 and 3 and Reception and Year 1 pupils visited Tesco in Porthmadog this week. The children learned how they baked the bread and tasted tiger bread and a variety of cheeses. They took part in a quiz to learn interesting information about fruits and vegetables and walked into the fridge and freezer!! Reception and year 1 also worked on the tills. Dr Bee's visit

Year 2 and 3's theme in science this term is 'Our body'. The children decided to invite Dr Bee to the school to talk about her work and answer questions which they had prepared. Thank you for a very interesting afternoon full of interesting information.

The Cylch meithrin visits the school

The children who attend the Cylch Meithrin in Morfa Nefyn joined us at the school with Aunty Emma, Aunty Eira and Aunty Bethan. John Dilwyn Jones from the archive in Caernarfon came to talk to the children about kitchen equipment in Owen Edwards’ age. The children learned about old traditions such as washing day and the importance of the fire to cook and dry clothes. Click here to see more pictures

Speak out. Stay safe!

A member of the NSPCC service came to school to make sure our pupils have the knowledge and understanding they need to stay safe from harm and how to get help if they have any worries. If you would like any more information about the service go to their website nspcc.org.uk/schools

St Dwynwen

We celebrated St Dwynwen’s day on the 25th of January. The children took part in many activities including a disco and played ‘Sion a Sian’. Congratulations to Cian and Ania from year 3 for winning. Everyone came to school dressed up for the party and paid £1. The school council decided to give the money towards CHD awareness.

Christmas concert

The Christmas show this year was Cinderella and we had a fantastic performance from the children. Thank you to the parents, staff and members of the school governors for helping. A DVD of the concert is available to buy for £5. Click here to see photos of the children performing.

Welsh Language Charter

The School Council accepted a 'gold award' certificate from the Gwynedd Welsh language charter for their hard work in promoting the Welsh language in school, with parents and the community. Congratulations!

Visiting the Lloyd George museum

Year 2 and 3 visited the Lloyd George museum in Llanystumdwy on Thursday, the 24th of November to learn about celebrating Christmas in the Victorian age. They learned about the school and the 'Welsh Not'. They made a traditional Christmas pudding and a Christmas decoration to hang on the Christmas tree. Very lucky! Building a home for the hedgehog

Everyone from Reception and Year 1 attended the busy hands club Robert who works for the National Trust came to school to take part in Autumn activities with Nursery, reception and Year 1 pupils. We had lots of fun learning about the animals who sleep during the Winter and we were busy building a home for the hedgehog. Click here to see more photos.

Children in need

The school council collected £89.02 towards children in need this year. Everyone paid £1 to wear spotty clothes and the children decorated buiscuits to sell. We had a competition where all pupils had to draw a picture of Pudsey. Here is a photo of the winners, which was one boy and one girl from each class with their prize. Christmas Fair

Thank you to everyone who attended our Christmas Fair. The Parents association made an amazing profit of £1186! Thank you to all the parents, staff and the school governors for helping and thank you to Santa for making an appearance and listening to the children singing.

Learning about Diwali

Nursery, Reception and Year 1 pupils has been learning about the Diwali celebrations this week. We learned new information about India and compared the Hinduism religion to our own religion. We took part in map activities about India, read new information about the country, used Indian spices to paint rangoli patterns and decorated Mehndi patterns using purplemash. Everyone created a Diwali lantern to take home to remember that Diwali is known as the 'festival of light' in India. Click here to see more photos.

Autumn activities at Plas yn Rhiw

Reception and Year 1 pupils took part in Autumn activities at Plas yn Rhiw with Robert who works for the National trust. We had a fantastic day learning about the four seasons, about the trees in the Autumn and the animals who hibernate in the Winter. The activities were very interesting. Potatoes!

The potatoes were ready at last! After a very wet Winter, the potatoes weren't ready in July like the other vegetables. But in September they were ready to be picked from the soil. Click here to see photos of Year 2 and 3 working hard in the garden and selling the produce to their parents.

The Summer reading challenge

Here is a photo of everyone who succeeded in the summer reading challenge this year. Everyone who attended the library to read 6 books during the summer holidays received a certificate and medal for their success. Well done!

Healthy schools' National quality award

The school has received the national quality award from the Gwynedd healthy schools scheme. We were assessed in July 2016 before receiving the award. Keith Parry, the educational officer of Dwyfor and Ann Hughes who works for the Gwynedd healthy schools' scheme came to school to present the new plaque. We enjoyed listening to Gareth Davies talking about his experience running the Paris marathon in 2015. The children joined him on the school field to run a mile in the 'Clwb dal i fynd'.

Celebrating Owain Glyndŵr's day

We celebrated Owain Glyndŵr's day this week to remember that he was proclaimed the Prince of Wales on the 16th of September 1400. Everyone came to school wearing clothes which represented Welsh colours and we took part in many activities to celebrate our nationality and learn about our hero.

Attendance

Here is a phot of two pupils who succeeded to have an attendance of 100% during the 2015-16 academic year. This is fantastic! They both received a very well deserved prize to celebrate their success.

Walking to school

This is a photo of all the pupils who walked to school at least three times a week during the summer term of 2016. Great effort and thank you to their parents for supporting the scheme.

Pear tree

All the children and staff would like to wish these two pupils best of luck in their new school. Thank you both for the pear tree, which has now been planted in the school garden.

Cangratulations to these 4 pupils who were chosen to take part in the new Cyw programme called Astra. They had a fun morning filming in Cibyn, Caernarfon.

Summer reading challenge

Nia from the library came to school to talk to the children about the summer reading challenge. The challenge is called ‘The Big Friendly Read’ this year to mark 100 years since the birth of Roald Dahl. Every child who attends the library during the summer holidays to read 6 books will receive a certificate and medal. Remember to read during the holidays!

Activities on the beach

We all joined Laura, Roberts and Fred from the National Trust down at the beach to take part in many fun activities. We learned about the birds that visit our beaches and collected wildlife in the water pools on the rocks. In the afternoon the nursery children joined us and everyone cooked marshmallows and made popcorn in front of the fire. A pirate visited the children to sing various songs full of interesting stories about his life at sea. Click here to see the photos.

Collecting rubbish on the beach

After learning about the effects of ‘pollution and recycling’ in science lessons this term, year 2 and 3 went to the beach in Morfa Nefyn with Catrin Glyn to collect rubbish. In our lessons, we learned how pollution affects our environment and the lives of sea creatures. We succeeded to collect lots of rubbish. Click here to see photos.

Lois Llywelyn

Lois Llywelyn came to school to show her drama medal which she received at the National Eisteddfod in Flint, 2016. Lois used to be a pupil at Ysgol Morfa. She is now an 18 year old student studying her A levels in Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor. She spoke with the pupils about the influence of her education and the welsh language on her success. Alun yr Arth's New Shirt

Alun yr Arth would like to thank Cynan, Enfys and Caio for his new Wales shirt. He's looking forward to wearing it to support our Country on Wednesday night. Good luck Wales!

Art on the beach

Reception and Year 1 went to the beach to take part in art activities. We have been learning about the artist Andy Goldsworthy in the classroom and emulated his work by using a variety of natural things found on the beach to make drawings and patterns. Click here to see the photos.

School trip

We visited Anglesey Sea Zoo for our end of term trip because both classrooms have been learning about sea creatures during the summer term. We had a great day seeing a variety of creatures and learning new information about each one. Click here to see the photos.

Selling vegetables

The gardening club was a success again this year and the produce has grown successfully. Year 2 and 3 have collected the lettuce this week and Menter Morfa, year 3's business company, sold the lettuce to parents at the gate. The profit will be used to buy more seeds and vegetables for next year's gardening club. Click here to see the photos.

Patrobas

The group ‘Patrobas’ came to school today to sing a variety of welsh songs including ‘Fflat Huw Puw’. Parents joined in the fun. Carwyn, who plays the drums for the group used to be a pupil at Ysgol Morfa. The School Council sent him an email asking if he would come to school . During the afternoon, we looked at photos of when Carwyn was a young boy at the school performing in concerts. We also watched a DVD of him acting in a Welsh TV series and the programme ‘Cyw’. He spoke about his career as a Welsh performer. Yestin Tyne brought his crown which he won for writing in the Eisteddfod this year. Click here to see photos of everyone enjoying themselves.

Sponsored run

Thank you to everyone who came to support the school and joined in the sponsored run on Morfa beach. Everyone had made an effort to wear fancy dress! The school organised the run to raise money towards buying new computers for the classrooms. Click here to see photos of every family in their fancy dress.

Recycling

Gwenllian, a recycling officer, came to talk to Year 2 and 3 about the importance of recycling. They have been learning about the effect that pollution has on our environment in the Science lessons this term, focusing that pollution has a terrible effect on sea creatures. Welsh Charter

The School Council gave a presentation for parents about the ‘Welsh Charter’ this week. In the presentation they emphasised how lucky we are to have two languages. Two languages...twice the choice! The council showed photos of the activities they organised during the year to develop the use of the welsh language further.

Kerbcraft

Catrin, a road safety officer, came to school to teach the children about road safety as part of the ‘kerbcraft’ scheme. She took the children outside to the village to learn important skills. Click here to see photos.

Porthdinllaen Seafood festival

The Seafood festival was organised again this year at the Porthdinllaen beach. The children were invited to open the afternoon by singing traditional songs about the beach. Their performance was praised by many. The Parents Association raised £154.60 selling cakes on the day. Click here to see photos.

The Cylch Meithrin

Reception and Year 1 pupils attended the Cylch Meithrin's morning session to play with the young children once again. We would like to thank the staff and children for a warm welcome! The school's pupils joined in the Cylch's 'circle time', singing session and the activities in the learning areas.

Assembly

Nia Williams attended our assembly to read a story from the Bible to the children. They dressed up and took part in drama activities to learn avout the importance of 'forgiveness'. She brought her friend Lewis with her. The children enjoyed listening to his stories!

Reception and Year 1 Gardening club

Thank you to all the parents who contributed old wellington so that we could plant flowers in them to make our outside area colourful. We also painted some stones to create minibeasts and decorated pieces of wood. The gardening club was very successful again this year with every child from year 2 and 3 attending. They were taught a variety of new gardening skills. Walking to school week May 2016

Carys Ofalus was invited to school again by the School Council. She reminded the children of road safety rules before the School Council encouraged them to walk to school daily. The staff, pupils and the road safety officer walked a short journey around the village to school on Monday morning to encourage everyone to continue throughout the term. Everyone enjoyed a tasty and healthy breakfast after arriving back at school. Seven pupils from year 2 and 3 attended the swimming Gala in the Leisure Centre today. They were representing Ysgol Morfa Nefyn and we would like to congratulate every one for competing and for doing their best.

Eisteddfod

Coleg y Bala

The children had a wonderful day at Coleg y Bala. We learned more about the Easter story and took part in a variety of interesting activities throughout the day.

Elain Llwyd who works with the 'Antena' filming company in Caernarfon came to school and the children took part in a workshop during the afternoon. Elain will choose 4 children from schools throughout Wales to be a part of a new show by 'Cyw' on S4C. Good luck everyone!

No Smoking Day

Tuesday, 9th of March was ‘No Smoking Day’. Year 2 and 3 learned the dangers of smoking and the effects that it has on our bodies. They designed posters to remind the community of the importance of not smoking. As we are a ‘healthy school’, the children have displayed some of the posters in the school gates.

Anno's Africa

Following wearing red clothes on St David's day to raise money, the School council presented a cheque of £41 to the Anno's Africa charity. Joy Brown came to school to accept the cheque. The money will be used to buy a school uniform to a child in the slums in Africa.

Fu’s Caernarfon

As we are learning about the Chinese New Year this term, reception, year 1, 2 and 3 visited the Fu’s restaurant in Caernarfon. It is a Chinese restaurant and the children had a lovely lunch whilst tasting a variety of Chinese foods. They watched the cooks preparing the food in the kitchen and the owner showed them how to use chopsticks. They had fun trying to use them to eat their food. Click here to see more photos.

World Book Day

Year 2 and 3 dressed up as a character from welsh folk tales and the Nursery, reception and year 1 pupils dressed up as a character from their favourite book. We had a fashion show at the caban where everyone discussed their character and the story before writing about their character in the classroom. Click here to see photos.

St David’s Day

The children came to school wearing Welsh clothes to celebrate St David’s day. We listened to stories about St David, took part in art and craft activities and learned about his important message that “small things counts”. We had an Eisteddfod at the Ganolfan, where the children sang traditional welsh songs to their parents and the community. Everyone enjoyed a cup of tea and some welsh cakes. The fire service

Lance from the fire service came to school to discuss fire safety. We had a story about Tanni who set his house on fire by accident. We also looked at photos of rooms in our homes and recognised the dangers in every photo. Some of the children got to wear a fireman suit. Click here to see more photos.

Language charter

The children had a wonderful afternoon in the company of Gwilym Bowen Rhys singing Welsh songs. Everyone had a great time singing and dancing. Gwilym will be at the St David’s day parade on Saturday in Pwllheli. The children can take part in the parade to celebrate St David’s day before joining him to sing on stage.

Seagrass Project

The children spent a day at the beach in Porthdinllaen with members of the ‘seagrass project’. The aim of the project is to win a competition so that they can create activities for young children on the local beaches to promote awareness of sea life. Ysgol Morfa was chosen to be a part of the filming with ITV to create an advertisement for the competition. Good luck the project and thank you for a fun day at the beach. CHD awareness

The school supported CHD awareness again this year. The School council decided to ask every child to contribute £1.50 to wear red clothing or clothes with hearts on them. During the day, we made heart shaped pancakes and got to guess the toy dog’s name. Here is a photo of the child who guessed correctly that the dog was called ‘Twm’. S4C came to schhol to film the children taking part in the activities and it was shown on the 9 o’clock news on S4C. PC Owen

PC Owen came to school to talk to the children about his work. He discussed ‘online safety’ with Year 2 and 3 and the importance of “Don’t touch, tell!” about substances with meithrin, Derbyn and Year 1.

The Grey Mare

Mair Tomos Ifans came to school to talk to the children about the welsh traditions of celebrating the New Year. The children had a fun filled day of creating the grey mare with colourful ribbons, learning her stories and songs. At the end of the day, parents came to the school to see the children perform. The theme has continued in year 2 and 3’s classroom where they have taken part in a variety on literacy and numeracy activities. Click here to see photos.

Victorian Christmas

We visited the Lloyd George museum in Llanystumdwy to learn about Victorian Christmas and the children dressed up as children from the past. They went to Lloyd George's old house to make Christmas pudding and experience the difference between homes today and homes in the past. Everyone also got to go to the old school to make Victorian Christmas decorations with the teacher. A fun filled day of wonderful experiences! Click here to see the photos!

Gymnastics Competition 2015

Thank you to the gymnastics team for representing the school in the competition in Caernarfon. The seven of them did very well and have worked hard this term to practice towards the big day and attending an after school club twice weekly. They received a certificate for their success. Children in Need

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the children in need fund again this year. We raised £110.66! Great! Everyone came to school dressed as their hero. They made a picture of their hero towards the competition and Year 2 and 3 wrote a description about them.

Welsh Language charter

The school council attended a reward ceremony at Ysgol Glan y Mor. The school received a gold award for their work in developing the Welsh language charter.

Congratulations to the children who have completed the summer challenge held by the local library ‘Break every record’ over the Summer holiday. To succeed they had to visit the library three times during the holidays and read six books.They received a certificate and a medal and Dewi Wyn came to school to take their photos for the local paper.

Thanksgiving Service

£301.14 was raised at the thanksgiving service this year! The money will be going towards ‘Move over poverty’. The children made a cow using a milk carton and took her home to collect money as a piggy bank. There is plenty of money to buy two cows for the poor families in Ethiopia, Africa. Thank you to everyone for their contribution. A CD of the thanksgiving service is available to buy for £3.

A visit from Gwenda who works at the museum

Gwenda, from the Lloyd George museum in Llanystumdwy came to the school to teach Reception and Year 1 how clothes were washed in the past. The children were taught the names of different washing equipment and they have been using them in the playhouse as part of the classroom theme ‘Washday’. Click here to see the photos!

Cricieth Castle

Year 2 and 3 visited the castle in Cricieth at the beginning of the term as they are learning about ‘Llywelyn Ein Llyw Olaf’ as a classroom theme. The children walked up the steep spiral path and learned about the 4 and eight points of the compass, whilst enjoying the view to the North, the South, the East and the West. Cooking Club

Mr Ali from Polash in Pwllheli came to the cooking club this week to cook Indian food with the children. We learned about the Muslim faith and compared it to the Christian faith. We then created some healthy vegetable samosas. Click here to see the photos!

New school council

Congratulations the five new councillors of Ysgol Morfa Nefyn. They were elected on Friday, following a performance to share ideas and their vision on how to develop the school. We have a chairwoman, a treasurer and a secretary. They have already started on their work by inviting Carys Ofalus to the school to discuss road safety towards their new project to encourage children to walk to school. Carys Ofalus came to school to congratulate the children on their effort in walking to school during the summer term. She also discussed and reminded the children about road safety. The session was very interesting. Click here to see more photos.

Attendance 2014-15

Summer reading challenge

A representative from the library came to school to introduce the children to the summer reading challenge.

Celebrating 10 years of the ‘Clwb Dal i Fynd’
‘Clwb Dal i Fynd’ was celebrating their 10th birthday on the 3rd of July. As a healthy school which takes part in the scheme by running one mile every week to keep fit and healthy, we were eager to celebrate! The school council decided that every child would wear a fancy dress to come to school and pay £1 to raise money for the air ambulance. Everyone ran 1 mile through the village in their fancy dress.

‘Blas y môr’ Porthdinllaen
The children were invited to sing in the ‘Blas y môr’ festival at Porthdinllaen on Saturday the 27th of June. The beach was full of local people and visitors and they all came to listen to the children singing. They were dresses as seamen in their hats and blue and white clothes. And sang ‘Fflat Huw Puw’ songs. There were many fun activities on the beach and the Parents association sold cakes. Thank you to the parents who contributed tasty cakes which allowed the Parents Association to make a profit of £310!

Trip to Pili Palas and Foel farm
We had a very educational day at our trip this year. Following learning about minibeasts in their science lessons, Year 2 and 3 visited Pili Palas in Anglesey. The children saw a variety of minibeasts and entered a tropical atmosphere of plants and waterfalls where butterflies flew around. Click here to see photos of Year 2 and 3.
Following the theme ‘three little pigs’, Reception and Year 1 visited Foel Farm in Anglesey. They learned about life on a farm and how to care for the animals. They got to sit on a trailer to go feed horses in the field as well as feed lambs. Click here to see photos of Reception and Year 1.

Year 3 bike lessons
Cheryl, a road safety officer came to school to teach Year 3 new skills on their bikes. The learned how to be safe on the road when using their bikes. We are encouraging children to walk or ride their bikes to school (with their parents) this term so that we can increase our fitness and reduce pollution. We will award those who succeed with a 'Carys Ofalus' T-shirt at the end of the term. Click here to see photos of the children enjoying themselves.

Fathers Day
Here are two performances for all the fathers of Ysgol Morfa pupils. Year 2 and 3 have been busy rapping a poem about Dad and Reception and Year 1 have created a poem to recite. Happy fathers day! Enjoy!

Glynllifon
Year 2 and 3 went to Glynllifon to learn the names of wild flowers, trees and minibeasts in the water pond with Swyn Spencer who world for the Wales national resources. They went fishing for minibeatst and then investigated and learnt their names. Then the went to look for a variety of wild flowers. Can you identify the flowers in the pictures? Tasting Sausages with Oinc Oink
Ela, which owns the company Oinc Oink came to school to teach the children about how sausages are made. The children got to taste sausages of different tastes and they were all very tasty. Ela showed the children photos of her pigs and explained how she cares for them to make the sausages so successful. Oinc Oink sell some of their products at 'siop a garej Morfa'. They are definitely worth buying.

Patagonia 150
150 years have gone by since the first Welsh settlers landed in Patagonia in 1865. There will be a celebration at Ysgol Pentreuchaf on Saturday 6th of June and Year 2 and 3 will be attending to sing a song about Patagonia. We went to the studio at Pant yr Hwch to record the song and copies of the CD will be sold for £5 each on the day. Many of the children made an effort to walk to school during the week, even through the rain on Monday morning! This is a photo of everyone who walked to school every day. Congratulations to all of them and thank you to the parents for supporting. The school council has decided to keep on awarding those who walk more than 3 days a week until the end of the term so that they can help them to keep healthy, look after the environment and stop the traffic on the road at 3pm.

A journey to see the pigs at Bryn Bach
Nursery, reception and Year 1 pupils walked to Bryn Bach in Morfa Nefyn to see the pigs. The class theme this term is the story about the ‘three little pigs’ and as part of the theme, we will be learning more about pigs. The children would like to thank Victoria Priestley for teaching them all the new facts about the animal as well as how to care for them every day. Click here to see more photos.

Activities at the Leisure Centre
During this term, Year 2 and 3 have been taking part ib various activities in the Leisure Centre. By the end of the term, they will all have had the chance to take part in kayaking sessions, biking on the spinning bikes and climbing on the climbing wall. Anos Africa
Joy Brown and Dixon, who is a Art teacher from Africa came to the school. Dixon was raised in the slums and decided to give himself a better life by learning art skills. The children took part in Art activities with the help of Dixon to support the Anos Africa charity. Heno from S4C and the singer and presenter Elin Fflur came to film the children talking about the experience. Click here to see photos.

St David’s day
The children came to school in traditional Welsh costume or red clothes to celebrate St David’s day. We listened to stories about St David and took part in many activities in the classroom to remember him. The children were also busy helping to cook welsh cakes. In the afternoon, a St David’s day concert was held at the Ganolfan and everyone who attended enjoyed a cup of tea and welsh cakes. Welsh cakes were also sold on a stall by Year 3 at the end of the concert. All the money raised at the concert and by selling welsh cakes went towards BOBATH. We raised £150. Thank you for your contribution.

World Book day
On World book day, the children came to school dressed up as characters from traditional stories and ‘bedtime stories’ such as three little pigs and Little Red Riding Hood. Everyone introduced their character to the rest of the school and explained the story. We wrote descriptions of our characters in the classroom and created bookmarks for our reading books. Everyone’s outfits looked great and we would like to thank the parents for their effort.

CHD awareness week

We raised £73.67 during CHD awareness week (Coronary Heart Disease). The children came to school wearing red clothes and made a variety of hearts in the art and craft learning area to raise their awareness of the charity. Thank you to the parents and staff who contributed.

Welsh Language charter – Comic Relief

Year 2 and 3 children will be on the Comic Relief ‘Live Stream’ on the 27th of February. The programme will begin at 9 pm until midnight on Saturday the 28th of February! 27 hours altogether! Go to the Comic Relief website to see the live recording: comicrelief.com

Welsh Charter Silver award
The School Council received a silver award for their hard work in encouraging the Welsh language at School. Congratulations!

Christmas Trip
The children went to watch a panto called 'Patagonia' in Cricieth. We then had lunch in the cafe in Tyddyn Sachau before visiting Santa in his grotto to remind him of our christmas list. A fun filled day!

School food gardens competition
Congratulations to the children! The school was successful in the food gardens competition. The competition was launched to get young children and adults to grow their own food such as fruits, vegetables and herbs. We would like to thank all the children who helped in the gardening club to make our garden so successful. As a prize, we got tokens to spend at a garden centre. This prize will be very useful in our next gardening club in the spring.

A visit to TESCO in Porthmadog
During this term, Year 2 and 3 and Reception and Year 1 have visited the TESCO supermarket in Porthmadog. They saw the different parts of the supermarket, including the storeroom, fridge and freezer! After learning how the break was baked, the tasted many different cheeses and fruits. Click here for photos.

Caernarfon Castle
Year 2 and 3 visited Caernafon Castle as part of their classroom theme learning about the First World War The children got to dress up and march as the soldiers during the First World War. Click here for more photos.

A visit from Steve Jones
Cadi Elen’s father visited the school to teach the children more facts about the First World War. He brought many objects from the war to show them. Many of the pupils wore the steel helmet and they even got to see some of the bullets. They heard many interesting war stories. We are very grateful for his interesting visit.

Lloyd George Museum
Reception and Year 1 visited the museum in Llanystumdwy as part of their classroom theme learning about Victorian Christmas. They had a fantastic morning dressing up as children from Victorian age, making Christmas decorations in the old school and making Christmas pudding in the cottage where Lloyd George grew up. It was an eye opening experience for the children and they learned so many new things. Click here for more photos.

Children in need

Thank you to everyone who contributed on Children in need day. The School council succeeded to raise £126.31 with the help of all the pupils and the kind parents. Year 2 and 3 had been very busy cooking cakes at home to sell at school and everyone came were wearing yellow or spotty clothes for the day. We held a competition to create a new mask for Pudsey. The winners were Dylan Binch and Nanw Jones from year 2 and 3 and Ifan John and Enfys Griffiths from Reception and Year 1. Click here to see more photos.

Thanksgiving service

A sum of £261.13 was raised in the Thanksgiving service towards 'Breast Cancer Research'. Thank you to everyone who attended the service wearing pink clothing and to everyone who contributed. The money will go towards buying a new Biopsy machine at Llandudno hospital.

On your knees for the bees

On the 17th of October, the children were busy planting ‘bluebells’ bulbs to support ‘on your knees for the bees’. They received a certificate from the naturist Iolo Williams for helping to make their environment pretty. We are all looking forward to see the bluebells flowering in the Spring!

Glynllifon

Reception and Year 1 visited the woodlands in Glynllifon to take part in many activities to learn about autumn. They were joined by Swyn Spencer from the national trust which had prepared many fun activities to reinforce our classroom theme. The children created an autumn crown by sticking leaves, seeds and sticks on the crown and wearing it whilst going for a walk through the woodlands. They then looked for animals which were hiding in the woods and they built a home for their animal so that it could keep dry and warm. Click here to see the photos.

Cooking club

The cooking club was very successful and a big thank you to those who attended. The children had a range of opportunities to learn new basic cooking skills. They cooked a variety of foods including a ‘couscous salad with roasted vegetables and feta cheese’ and ‘funny faces pizzas’. Click here to see more photos.

Ken Fitzpatrick visits

Ken Fitzpatrick, the manager of the Porthdinllaen Lifeboat came to school to thank the children for attending the ceremony to name the new lifeboat. The children were given a T-shirt each and a magazine to teach them about the safety of the sea and the Lifeboat’s work.

Porthdinllaen Lifeboat

On Sunday, 28th of September 2014, the pupils of Ysgol Morfa Nefyn joined in the historical day at Porthdinllaen. This day was a day to remember as the Lifeboat has been rescuing lives in the area for 150 years. It was also a ceremony to name the new boat, John D Spicer, and to open the new boathouse which was recently built. Pupils of year 1, 2 and 3 sang J Glyn Davies songs to the important guests, including the famous ‘Fflat Huw Puw’ song. Creating a Welsh dresser with Luned Parri

As part of the Welsh language charter, all pupils were busy working alongside the artist Luned Parri creating a 3D Welsh dresser for the Caban. They used paper and cardboard only to create the dresser. They then imitated the willow pattern from crockery in blue and white.
